PLA Wood is a composite material blend of PLA and real wood fibres which results in biodegradable 3D parts with the texture and feel of real wood. The resulting parts can be sanded and stained like real wood, allowing for complex, single-peice geometries that look and feel like the actual thing.

What is Wood PLA filament?

Wood PLA filament is a type of 3D printing filament that combines a thermoplastic polymer, typically polylactic acid (PLA), with wood particles or fibers. The result is a material that has the texture and appearance of wood, but can be 3D printed using most consumer-grade 3D printers.

Wood PLA filament is a popular choice for 3D printing because it allows users to create objects with a natural and organic look and feel, such as decorative objects, figurines, or jewelry. It can also be used to create functional objects with a wooden appearance, such as boxes or frames.

One of the advantages of printing with Wood PLA filament is that it has similar printing properties to standard PLA filament, including a low melting point, good adhesion to most printing surfaces, and good layer adhesion. It also has a low tendency to warp or deform during printing.

It’s important to note that Wood PLA filament can be more abrasive than standard PLA filament, which can cause increased wear on the printer nozzle over time. To mitigate this, some users opt to use a hardened steel or ruby nozzle when printing with Wood PLA filament.

Additionally, the wood particles in Wood PLA filament can cause clogging in the printer nozzle if it’s not properly cleaned after use. It’s also important to note that Wood PLA filament is not biodegradable, as it contains a plastic component, but it can be recycled through some specialized recycling programs.
